EPPD Reports Crime Down
June 11, 2011
Through Saturday, June 11, 2011 overall crime is down 8%, compared to this time last year. The crime categories with the largest decreases across the city are Vehicle Thefts, which are down 18% (765 in 2010, compared to 629 in 2011), Thefts are down 11% (6,079 in 2010, compared to 5,382 in 2011), Burglary is down 9% (833 in 2010, compared to 762 in 2011), and Robberies are down 6% (195 in 2010, compared to 184 in 2011). Increases have been seen in Murders, which are up, with 13 occurring in 2011 compared to 1 at this same time in 2010. Burglary of Vehicles sees no change at 0%, where 1,131 have occurred in 2010 compared to 1,127 during this same time period in 2011.

SANTA FE - El Paso Electric Co., with just one minor hurdle left, expects to start construction this summer on an $83.9 million utility generating plant in Sunland Park. The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission on Tuesday advanced the proposal for a final vote. New Mexico's Environment Department and the Texas Public Utility Commission already have authorized the project.
